Mesh Networks May Move Beyond Major Tech Companies

After over two decades, Apple’s, Amazon’s, and Google’s smart home standards will unify, starting January 1, 2026, with Thread 1.4 as the sole certified standard, introducing credential sharing. This allows devices from different brands, like an Amazon Echo Show and an Apple HomePod mini, to control shared devices, a shift from the previous model. The Thread Group, established in 2014, includes major tech players, and alongside Thread 1.4, Wi-Fi 7 and the Matter protocol will enhance connectivity for smart homes.
