Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS recalled for fire risk

Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 7000 GLE and GLS SUVs due to a potential fire risk.

“Due to a manufacturing issue, the threaded nut securing the 48 Volt wiring harness under the driver seat may become loose,” the company says in its recall notice.

“If this occurs, it could result in higher than normal electrical resistance within the harness which could lead to a vehicle fire.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

A total of 7429 GLE and GLS models are affected from 2019 to 2022. The vehicle identification number (VIN) list is attached here. The original recall notice is attached here.

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to contact a Mercedes-Benz dealership to organise a free inspection and repair.

If you have any further questions, you can contact the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Centre on 1300 762 718.
