The Canadian government, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, has introduced the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, a new GST rebate aimed at making groceries more affordable. Starting in July, the existing GST credit will increase by 25% for five years, with eligible families of four receiving up to $1,890 this year and approximately $1,400 annually thereafter. Over 12 million Canadians qualify, and payments are automatically distributed quarterly based on tax return assessments.
