The rescue of three boys, aged ten and eight (twins), from a ‘House of Horrors’ in Oviedo, Spain, has prompted an investigation into their German parents, Christian and Melissa Steffen, accused of keeping them locked up for nearly four years. Authorities are working to locate other relatives for the children, who were found in deplorable conditions, wearing nappies and forced to sleep in caged beds. A neighbor’s detailed observations led to the police intervention that ultimately freed the children, who are now in social service care, while the Steffens face serious charges including domestic violence and child abandonment.
