A man was rescued 37 kilometers off the coast of Estepona while floating on an inflatable mattress, mistaken for a lost toy by crew members of an oil tanker. Spainβs Maritime Safety and Rescue Society confirmed he was not a migrant or in distress; he simply went for a paddle and got carried away by the current. A rescue craft brought him back safely to port, where he was checked and released. This incident followed another where over 50 cruise ship passengers were left floating at sea after their boat sank in the Caribbean.
