A West Virginia man, Chase Fleming, was arrested after allegedly shooting his father in the face with a crossbow during an argument. The incident led to a multi-county manhunt, with police searching through snow-covered terrain in Jackson and Roane counties. Fleming was charged with malicious assault, and additional charges may follow. The victim is in stable condition after being hospitalized, with the bolt having penetrated his face just below the left eye and exited from the back of his head. Following the shooting, Fleming fled in his pickup truck but crashed, and he was later found hiding under a rock and taken into custody without resistance. Bond information is currently unavailable.

Why It Matters

This incident highlights the dangers of domestic disputes escalating to severe violence, especially involving unconventional weapons like crossbows. In recent years, there has been an increase in reports of violent crimes in domestic settings, prompting discussions on effective intervention strategies. Law enforcement’s use of K-9 units and drones in the search underscores the challenges police face in tracking down suspects in rural and difficult terrains. Such incidents also draw attention to the need for resources and support for victims of domestic violence to prevent similar occurrences.
