Man, 92, wanted to ‘murder care home staff’ before being ‘tasered by police’

A 92-year-old man, Donald Burgess, was Tasered by police after threatening to stab staff at his care home in East Sussex on June 21, 2022. Bodycam footage revealed that within 83 seconds, he was sprayed with pepper spray, hit with a baton, and Tasered, despite being in a wheelchair and vulnerable due to multiple health issues. Officers Pc Stephen Smith and Pc Rachel Comotto face assault charges, with the prosecution arguing that the force used was excessive given Mr. Burgess’s condition, although they are not responsible for his subsequent death 22 days later.
