Gunmen have launched a coordinated attack in Mali, targeting the capital Bamako and several other locations, according to the military. Explosions and gunfire were reported near the Kati military base and in towns including Sevare and Gao. Mali has faced over a decade of violence from armed groups linked to al-Qaeda and ISIL. The country, under military rule since two coups in 2020 and 2021, has cut ties with France and strengthened military alliances in the Sahel region.
