A recent report highlights Grab’s economic contributions totaling nearly RM10 billion, or 0.5% of Malaysia’s GDP in 2023, praised by Malaysia’s Minister of Digital for its efficiency and business opportunities. E-commerce, e-hailing, and delivery services have increased job opportunities, but questions arise regarding their impact on workers and future economic prospects. Platform capitalism, including PBGE and e-commerce, has become integral to Malaysia’s economy, drawing on excess capital to generate revenue, drive consumption, and create employment opportunities for individuals who may not have sought formal employment previously.
