A significant fire destroyed waterfront businesses in Launceston, with firefighters relying on river water due to low mains supply. The blaze began at Tamar Marine just after midnight, spreading to Almasts Australia and a nearby warehouse, with damages estimated at $5 million. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and an excavator will be used to fully extinguish the fire. Tasmania Fire Service will investigate the cause.
