Captain Riyad Mahrez scored twice as Algeria defeated 10-man Sudan 3-0 in their opening match of the 2025 AFCON. Mahrez netted the first goal just 82 seconds in and added a second after the hour mark, while Ibrahim Maza sealed the win late in the game. Sudan’s chances were hindered by a red card for Salaheldin Adil just before halftime. This victory marks a strong start for Algeria, who aim to improve after previous early exits in the tournament.
