Washington — Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has been indicted on charges related to his role in importing “thousands of tons” of cocaine into the U.S. and enriching himself and his associates. Following his military custody transfer to the U.S., Maduro, his wife Cilia Flores, and four others face multiple charges, including narco-terrorism and conspiracy to possess firearms. The indictment accuses them of corrupting Venezuelan institutions to facilitate drug trafficking while Maduro allegedly used his political positions to benefit from these activities. The case, overseen by U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein, stems from a prior indictment issued in 2020.
