Lowell man proven innocent of 1986 murder awarded $13 million

Michael Sullivan, a Massachusetts man wrongfully imprisoned for 26 years for murder, was awarded $13 million by a jury but is limited to receiving $1 million due to state law. The jury found him innocent of all charges and awarded him $4 million for loss of freedom and $9 million for pain and suffering. Sullivan’s lawyer emphasized the importance of his exoneration over the monetary compensation, as he was completely cleared of the crime based on false testimony and fabricated evidence.
