Army veteran, 82, dies after stranger takes his walking stick

Allen Karam Chand, an 82-year-old army veteran, died following a random attack in Birmingham on January 14. After getting off a bus, Muntahar Ahmed, 44, stole Chand’s walking stick and pushed him to the ground, causing severe injuries, including a fractured skull. Ahmed, who was arrested two days later, initially faced a wounding charge that was upgraded to manslaughter after Chand’s death. He has pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing.
