LAFD Chief: Palisades Fire Report Edited for Leadership Protection

The head of the Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD), Chief Jaime Moore, disclosed that the after-action report of the destructive Palisades Fire, which occurred in January 2025, was altered to shield department leadership from criticism. The fire, California’s third most destructive, resulted in 12 fatalities and the loss of 7,000 structures. Moore acknowledged the department’s previous mishandling of the Lachman Fire, which contributed to the Palisades Fire, and stated that new procedures, including drone technology, have been implemented to improve firefighting protocols.
