The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has condemned Israel’s eight-week blockade on Gaza, describing it as a “man-made” and “politically motivated starvation” crisis, with the UN’s World Food Programme reporting that aid stocks in the enclave are entirely depleted. Michael Fakhri, the UN rapporteur on the right to food, stated that the blockade has lasted over 50 days, allowing Israel to continue its “starvation campaign” without facing consequences. The situation in Gaza is dire, with children facing severe food shortages amid the ongoing blockade.
