A member of Iran’s women’s football team was seen being led onto a bus by a teammate as they departed a Gold Coast hotel for Sydney, where supporters welcomed them with tears and signs. The Australian Federal Police monitored the arrival amid concerns about the players’ safety, following threats from Iranian state media. Five players have since been granted humanitarian visas after escaping their hotel, with Brisbane Roar FC offering them a place to train and integrate into the local community.
