Lightning and heavy rain forced the BBL season opener between the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers at Optus Stadium to be reduced to an 11-overs-a-side match. Spectators were evacuated due to safety concerns from lightning strikes, causing a delayed start until 5.35pm WST. The Sixers will miss players Jafer Chohan and Sean Abbott, while star Babar Azam makes his BBL debut. The Scorchers field a strong lineup featuring Mitch Marsh and Ashton Turner.
