As Christians in Lebanon marked Palm Sunday, the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah loomed over the celebrations. Despite Israeli bombings and evacuation orders, churches in Beirut and Tyre were filled with worshippers praying for peace. The escalating violence has taken a toll on all Lebanese people, regardless of their religious affiliation. In Tyre, where residents have defied evacuation orders, Christians gathered to celebrate Palm Sunday amidst the devastation.

Why It Matters

The intensifying conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has resulted in over 1,238 deaths and 3,500 injuries in Lebanon since early March. The historical sectarian tensions in the country, rooted in the civil war between Christians and Muslims, add a poignant backdrop to the current situation. As the conflict continues to escalate, it not only threatens the lives of individuals but also has far-reaching implications for the stability of the region.
