France’s government is at risk of collapse as the far-right National Rally party, led by Marine Le Pen, threatens to bring down Prime Minister Michel Barnier’s administration over a tax-hiking 2025 budget bill. Le Pen has stated that talks with Barnier failed to produce the changes her party demands, including opposition to electricity tax hikes and pension delays. If the budget is pushed through without concessions, National Rally plans to support a confidence vote already threatened by the opposition alliance, potentially leading to a government downfall.
