Hundreds of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are boycotting the Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay this weekend in protest of the conviction of Deputy Trevor James Kirk, who was found guilty of excessive force against a woman during a robbery investigation. Kirk, convicted of federal civil rights violations for throwing the woman to the ground and pepper spraying her, faces sentencing on April 21, with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. The boycott, claiming Kirk was “wrongfully convicted,” reflects broader concerns about law enforcement accountability.
