After 40 years, Hindustan Shipyard (HSL) in New Delhi has turned its net worth positive, overcoming financial challenges and supply chain issues that nearly led to its closure. The defence shipyard, now manufacturing ships for the Indian Navy, achieved a total income of ₹1,586 crore and a profit before tax of ₹295 crore in 2024-25, marking a significant 36% year-on-year growth and positioning itself to receive Miniratna status. Established in 1941, HSL’s expertise in submarine refits and its strategic location in Visakhapatnam near key naval facilities have been instrumental in its resurgence.
