Laos shutters Chinese-owned potash mine over sinkholes

Laos has ordered a Chinese-owned potash mine responsible for two massive sinkholes in Khammouane province to cease operations and fill in the sinkholes. The sinkholes, measuring 20 meters and 10 meters wide, are suspected to be linked to the mine operated by Sino-Agri International Potash Co., Ltd. Despite central government inspections, the cause remains unclear, and residents fear further collapses as filling in the sinkholes is seen as a temporary solution.
