Lee Kohiti died by suicide after prison release

Lee Rawiri Kohiti was sentenced to prison for murdering his cousin at the age of 19 in 1995 and spent 30 years incarcerated before being released to a facility in Hamilton as a life parolee. Isolated from friends and family, he expressed a desire to return to prison in mid-July, but tragically took his own life just two weeks later in his unit.
