Motions passed include $5.5 million for legal services for immigrants, the creation of a county task force on immigration policy, and a campaign to educate immigrants on their legal rights. Additionally, a $7 million pilot program to support organizations serving transgender individuals in L.A. County was approved. The city of Los Angeles is also moving forward with becoming a “sanctuary city” to protect immigrants. Advocates praised the county for taking concrete steps to protect vulnerable communities in the face of potential threats from the federal government.
