A person died after being struck by a tree while clearing floodwaters near Nelson, specifically in Wai-iti, this morning. Emergency services responded to the incident on State Highway 6 at around 9:40 am, but despite their efforts, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by Acting Nelson Bays area commander Senior Sergeant Martin Tunley.
