Kurds in Syria, marginalized during Assad rule, are now asserting cultural gains in the post-Assad transition, with Kurdish language and traditions being revived. Negotiations with new authorities in Damascus for decentralization are ongoing, while conflict with Turkish-backed rebels threatens Kurdish autonomy and forces thousands to flee.
