Kurdish activist fled Iran into Italy nightmare

Kurdish activist Maysoon Majidi fled Iran, crossed the Mediterranean, and was unexpectedly jailed in Italy for people smuggling after arriving on a boat in December. Despite being a political refugee, she spent 10 months in prison before being released with support from Amnesty International and others. Majidi hopes to have her case dismissed in November and join her brother in Germany to continue her activism, facing challenges from Italy’s hard-right government’s migration clampdown.
