Kurdish activist Maysoon Majidi fled Iran, crossed the Mediterranean, and was unexpectedly jailed in Italy for people smuggling after arriving on a boat in December. Despite being a political refugee, she spent 10 months in prison before being released with support from Amnesty International and others.
