About 20 years ago, a turntable was purchased with the intention of becoming a key part of a music-making setup, but it remained underutilized until recently. The Korg Handytraxx Play, a portable, battery-powered turntable with a built-in speaker and fader, finally enabled the user to pursue the long-held goal of learning to scratch. While the Handytraxx is compact and can be easily stored away, it has its drawbacks, including clunky controls and a less-than-ideal looper feature. Despite these issues, the Handytraxx offers a unique experience for practicing and sampling music at home or on the go, though its price of $500 may be considered high for a device with such limitations.
Why It Matters
The Korg Handytraxx Play represents a growing interest in portable music equipment that caters to both casual users and serious musicians. As vinyl culture continues to thrive, innovative devices like the Handytraxx cater to the need for mobility and ease of use in music production. The evolution of technology in music equipment has seen a rise in self-contained systems that allow users to create and mix music anywhere, reflecting a shift in the way music is consumed and produced. This trend underscores the importance of versatility and accessibility in modern music-making.
