King pays tribute to Nigerian heritage during state banquet for President Tinubu
During a state banquet held for Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and his wife Oluremi Tinubu, the King of the UK praised the contributions of people of Nigerian heritage to British society. He highlighted their achievements in various fields such as business, technology, academia, law, science, sport, literature, and the arts. The King also acknowledged the enrichment of British culture by Nigerian influences, including Afrobeats music and Nollywood films.
Guests at the banquet enjoyed a menu featuring dishes like quail egg tartlet and fillet of turbot. President Tinubu, who is Muslim, toasted with a soft drink as the King wished him “Ramadan Mubarak”. The visit marks the first by a Nigerian president in nearly 40 years.
The Nigerian dignitaries were welcomed to Windsor with a Guard of Honour and a carriage ride. The King expressed admiration for Nigeria’s progress and transformation, noting the country’s rapid development. The visit also included a meeting with organizations promoting interfaith dialogue and exhibits from the royal collection.
