Kia recalls nearly 463,000 Tellurides due to fire risk

Kia America is recalling nearly 463,000 Telluride midsize crossover SUVs from the 2020-2024 model years due to a fire risk, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The issue stems from a potential overheating of the front power seat motor, which may occur if a power seat slide knob becomes stuck or if improper repairs were made during a previous recall. The NHTSA advises owners to park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until the necessary repairs are completed. Kia dealerships will provide the installation of a free electronic fuse assembly to address the problem, with notification letters to affected owners scheduled to be sent out on August 13.

Why It Matters

This recall highlights ongoing concerns regarding vehicle safety and manufacturer accountability, particularly in the context of electrical issues that can lead to fires. The NHTSA has been increasingly vigilant in monitoring and addressing potential hazards within the automotive industry, as fire risks associated with vehicles have prompted numerous recalls in recent years. Historical data shows that vehicle recalls can significantly impact consumer confidence and brand reputation, making timely and effective responses critical for manufacturers like Kia. Recalls of this magnitude also emphasize the importance of proper repair practices and the potential repercussions of substandard service in previous recall resolutions.
