Kenyan Lawmaker Is Shot Dead by Motorcycle-Riding Assailant

A Kenyan lawmaker, Charles Were, was shot and killed in a targeted attack while stopped at a traffic light in Nairobi on Wednesday evening. Witnesses reported that an assassin on a motorcycle fired into the passenger side of Were’s vehicle before escaping. President William Ruto called for a thorough investigation, while opposition leader Raila Odinga condemned the attack as a barbaric execution. Were, a member of the Orange Democratic Movement, had been re-elected in 2022, amidst rising governmental frustration and unrest in Kenya.
