A teenager is in critical condition and another is seriously injured following an e-scooter accident in Karratha, Pilbara. The incident occurred around 3:45 PM on Good Friday when two 14-year-old girls fell from the e-scooter on Karratha Terrace near Balmoral Road. Emergency services transported both girls to Karratha Hospital, with one later airlifted to Perth Children’s Hospital, where she remains critically ill. The other girl is reported to be in stable condition at Karratha Hospital. WA Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with video evidence to contact Crime Stoppers.

Why It Matters

E-scooter accidents are becoming increasingly common as usage grows, highlighting safety concerns and the need for regulation. In 2021, the Australian government noted a rise in injuries related to e-scooters, prompting discussions about safety measures and public awareness campaigns. This incident underscores the potential dangers associated with e-scooter use, particularly for young riders, as the popularity of these vehicles continues to expand in urban areas. The ongoing investigation may shed light on the necessity for improved safety protocols and regulations to protect users.
