A confrontation occurred between members of the Mongol MC and the Greazy Dogs MC at a Mount Maunganui McDonald’s on June 21, 2023. The incident began around 9:30 a.m. when members of the Mongol MC were seen wearing their gang patches and clothing, which led to tensions with rival gang members. CCTV footage captured two white utes leaving the McDonald’s in convoy and encountering another ute driving against traffic, causing a standoff. Following this, several men exited the vehicles and a fight broke out, resulting in a significant disruption on Maunganui Rd.

Why It Matters

Gang-related incidents have been on the rise in New Zealand, leading to increased public concern about safety and crime. The Mongol MC and Greazy Dogs MC are part of a larger network of motorcycle gangs that have historically been involved in violent confrontations. Such clashes often involve territorial disputes and can escalate quickly, affecting local communities and law enforcement resources. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for addressing gang violence and its impact on public safety in New Zealand.
