Donna Adelson, matriarch of a wealthy South Florida family, was convicted of first-degree murder in the 2014 killing of her former son-in-law, law professor Daniel Markel, amid a contentious custody battle. Prosecutors argued she orchestrated the murder to facilitate her daughter’s move with the children, while four others, including her son, have already been sentenced for their roles in the plot.
