Judge shows no sympathy for drink driver

Lionel Clark Taumata, 29, from Gore pleaded guilty to drink driving in the Ashburton District Court after being caught with a breath alcohol reading of 1206 micrograms in Netherby, well above the legal limit of 250. Duty lawyer Tiffany McRae requested a reduced punishment due to Taumata’s current circumstances, but was interrupted during her statement to the court.
