President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s new government is trying to attract foreign investment as Syria’s economy lies in ruins.
Jordan will host a meeting involving Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and U.S. envoy Thomas Barrack to discuss Syria’s reconstruction, following Syria’s recent signing of $14bn worth of investment agreements. Amid ongoing violence and a devastated economy, the Syrian government aims to attract foreign investments for infrastructure projects, with the UN estimating reconstruction costs over $400bn.
