Green Bay Packers Defensive Schemes Under Jonathan Gannon
New Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon favors Quarters/Cover 4 schemes, contrasting with previous coordinators Joe Barry and Jeff Hafley. Barry’s defenses primarily utilized old zone coverages, while Hafley’s approach leaned towards Cover 1 and Cover 3. Gannon’s strategies will likely emphasize a more flexible, thinking-man’s defense with variations like Cover 7, aiming to enhance overall defensive effectiveness. Recent trends show a significant shift from Barry’s reliance on old zone to Gannon’s preferred coverages, indicating a strategic evolution for the Packers.
