John Coates resigns as CAS head for cancer treatment

Veteran Australian Olympic official John Coates has stepped down as head of the Court of Arbitration for Sport after undergoing six months of chemotherapy, citing health issues that prevent international travel. The 75-year-old, who played a significant role in the Sydney Olympics and the IOC, will be succeeded temporarily by Michael Lenard until the next election in May 2027.
