Joburg prosecutor sentenced to 7 years for job selling scheme

Siphokazi Magangana, a former prosecutor with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), has been sentenced to an effective seven years in prison for corruption and money laundering. The Roodepoort Regional Court found her guilty of soliciting R10,000 bribes from two individuals in exchange for securing them positions as public prosecutors. The court imposed seven years for each corruption charge and three years for each money laundering charge, with the sentences running concurrently. Magangana’s illegal activities took place in August 2022, leading to her arrest by the Organised Crime Unit after a complaint was lodged. She has since resigned from her position and has been in custody since her arrest.
