An 85-year-old pensioner, Jim Beniston, felt fortunate not to be home when a stolen speeding car crashed through his roof in Whangārei on May 6 at 1:45 am. While recovering from an infection in the hospital, he was informed by police about the incident and is now advocating for the local council to install safety barriers.
