Japan imports Canadian crude amid supply concerns in Asia

The first shipment of Canadian crude oil since 2025 is en route to Japan, with the Freedom Glory vessel carrying Trans Mountain pipeline (TMX) crude. This shipment, purchased by Japan’s largest refiner Eneos, comes as Asian countries seek to diversify oil supplies following disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. TMX oil exports have significantly increased, now constituting nearly 77 percent of total oil exports from Vancouver this year.
