Jon Venables, one of the killers of two-year-old James Bulger, has reportedly applied for parole again, raising concerns for Bulger’s family, who fear his release. Now 42, Venables and his accomplice Robert Thompson abducted and murdered Bulger in 1993 when they were just ten years old, and Venables has faced multiple recalls to prison for child porn offences since his controversial release in 2001. Although his latest bid for freedom is being assessed, officials have reassured Bulger’s parents that Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood does not support his release.
