19-year-old Jaida Lee from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, made history as the 14th overall pick in the inaugural Women’s Professional Baseball League draft, joining the New York team. Celebrating her achievement from Whistler, B.C., Lee expressed excitement and surprise at her selection, having previously broken barriers as the first female to play in men’s baseball at the Canada Games. While she will continue playing for the University of British Columbia, only 15 out of 30 drafted players will secure contracts. Jaida’s father, Dave, emphasized her role as a trailblazer for young female athletes in Canada.
