In 2024, farmer and farm laborer groups from Punjab resumed protests demanding a law for guaranteed buying of crops at minimum support prices (MSP), led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha. Jagjit Singh Dallewal, a veteran leader, began an indefinite hunger strike in support of the demands, with the protest ongoing for 11 months in Haryana. Mr. Dallewal, a prominent farmer leader, has a history of advocating for farmer rights and has escalated his protest by sacrificing his property and health, urging the government to address the farming community’s concerns.
