Wimbledon Tavern in Tararua Closes to Locals

The Wimbledon Tavern in Tararua has closed to locals due to challenges posed by the surrounding community, which the owners, Eric and Susan Gathercole, described as “evil.” They have owned the tavern since 2018 and will now only accept bookings from outside groups of 20 to 50 people. Despite the closure, the couple plans to continue residing at the pub on Route 52 for the foreseeable future. Their intention was never to profit significantly from the venture.
