Italy takes back 43 migrants it planned to process in Albania

An Italian navy ship transported 43 migrants from Albania to Italy after a court decision in Rome rejected the far-right government’s attempt to process migrants in the non-EU country. This was the third unsuccessful effort by Giorgia Meloni’s government to handle migrants in Albania, with the fate of one final migrant remaining unclear. The European Court of Justice is expected to rule on the case on Feb. 25, as Italy signed an agreement to process migrants outside the EU to combat illegal migration, despite concerns from human rights activists and growing numbers of arrivals in Italy.
