Xu Zewei, a 34-year-old Chinese hacker, has been extradited from Italy to the United States for allegedly stealing COVID-19 vaccine research. He was arrested in Milan last July and is accused of targeting universities and institutions involved in pandemic-related research as part of a cyber-espionage campaign linked to China’s Ministry of State Security. Xu faces nine criminal charges, including wire fraud and unauthorized access to protected computers, and could face up to 20 years in prison for each serious charge if convicted.
