One hundred chefs gathered at Chelsea Town Hall in London to create the world’s longest tiramisu, measuring 440.6 meters (1,445 feet), surpassing the previous record of 273.5 meters set in Milan in 2019. The impressive dessert, which stood over 8 cm tall and 15 cm wide, required approximately 50,000 sponge fingers and more than 3,000 eggs to make. This record-breaking event was led by Italian entrepreneur Mirko Ricci, who dedicated the tiramisu to the King and Queen, adorning it with a golden crown and the words “Grazie your majesty.” The attempt was officially validated by a Guinness World Records adjudicator, and proceeds from the event were donated to the Esharelife Foundation to combat poverty.

Why It Matters

This event highlights the cultural significance of tiramisu, an iconic Italian dessert believed to have originated in Treviso in the 1960s. The name “tiramisu,” meaning “cheer me up,” reflects its popularity and status as a symbol of Italian cuisine. Record-breaking culinary feats not only celebrate national pride but also foster community involvement, as evidenced by the collaboration of numerous chefs and volunteers. Such initiatives can draw attention to charitable causes, as seen with the donations made to the Esharelife Foundation, emphasizing the role of food events in addressing social issues.
