Israeli forces advance beyond Lebanon’s Litani River

Israeli forces have advanced into southern Lebanon, capturing Beaufort Castle and reaching the outskirts of Nabatieh, a Hezbollah stronghold, despite a ceasefire in place since April. This marks Israel’s most significant incursion into Lebanon in over 25 years, with troops now controlling about 2,000 square kilometers of territory. The move reflects a shift in Israeli objectives from merely pushing Hezbollah north of the Litani River to potentially dismantling its influence in southern Lebanon.
